New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the signing of forward Abu Danladi ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. Danladi was selected first overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United, and has played more than 100 matches and 5,000 minutes at the MLS level.
“Abu has top-level experience and skill, and has the potential to make a massive impact on our club and league,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “We are thrilled to be able to welcome someone of his talent level to New Mexico United, and can’t wait to see what he can do in the Black & Yellow.”
The Takoradi, Ghana-native has actually been a top draft pick twice. In addition to his first-overall selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, Danladi was also selected first by Nashville SC in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft, after spending the first three years of his pro career with Minnesota United (2017-2019). Following two seasons with Nashville, Danladi returned to the Loons in 2022, before spending the 2023 season with FK Bylis in Albania.
