New Mexico United have defied the odds, and are USL Championship Playoffs-bound following their improbable run to close the season, capped off by Friday night’s 4-1 victory over Memphis 901 FC. United will now wait to see where they will travel for the first round. Their opponent will be Sacramento Republic FC, San Antonio FC, Orange County SC, or San Diego Loyal FC, depending on results on Saturday night.
United scored early and often in this one. Leading the way was Harry Swartz, who picked up a back-post cross from Justin Portillo and headed it home for a 1-0 lead!
Just nine minutes later, it was Zico Bailey who got on the scoresheet, as he took a beautiful through ball from Moreno, hit the brakes to send a defender diving, and slotted home to double the advantage.
After that, it was the Greg Hurst show, as he scored in the 61st and 71st minute to put the match out of reach. Andrew Thomas made three saves to see this one out.
