New Mexico United is excited to announce that defender and captain Josh Suggs will return to the club for the 2023 USL Championship season. Suggs – who grew up in Las Cruces and attended Las Cruces High School – made 15 USL Championship appearances in his fourth season with United. He has served as captain of United since their first match in 2019.
Suggs is fourth, all-time, in appearances in the Black & Yellow, playing in 89 matches for the club in all competitions. He is also second, all-time, in USL Championship minutes played – 19,390. He trails only the retired Taylor Mueller in that category. In addition, he is sixth, all-time, in USL Championship appearances, with 235. Suggs has been a defensive stalwart for the club, but has also contributed in the attack – scoring four goals and assisting seven more in his four seasons with United.
Prior to returning to his native New Mexico, Suggs was a key contributor for several USL Championship clubs, and is well-known as one of the most responsible and mentally tough players in the league.
