New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the signing defender Talen Maples ahead of the 2024 season. Maples, who plays as a center-back, has played 70 matches and more than 6,200 minutes at the MLS Next Pro and USL League One levels. In 2023, he scored four goals from the center-back position for Houston Dynamo 2, and captained the team for the entire season.
“Talen is an incredibly gifted and exciting talent at the heart of defense,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “His strength, talent and leadership will make us stronger and more cohesive. We can’t wait for the United family to see him in Black & Yellow.”
Maples played 26 matches for Houston Dynamo 2 in 2023, starting all 26 and serving as captain in every fixture. He was drafted 72nd overall by Toronto FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft and played 19 matches for Toronto FC II in 2021. Maples moved to Houston in 2022, and spent the last two seasons becoming a leader in that organization.
Maples played collegiate soccer at Southern Methodist University where he was named an all-conference performer and a captain for the Mustangs.
