ALBUQUERQUE, NM (December 12, 2018) New Mexico United announced today the professional soccer team’s latest player signing, under the guidance of Head Coach Troy Lesesne. Forward Santi Moar joins New Mexico United’s roster for its 2019 opening season.
Moar is the ninth player to sign with the team. Moar joins eight recently signed New Mexico United players including three New Mexicans, Devon Sandoval, Justin Schmidt and Josh Suggs, as well as Juan Guzman, Sam Hamilton, Cody Mizell, Toni Soler and Austin Yearwood. All player signings are pending United Soccer League (USL) and federation approval.
"I am so happy to take this next step in my career, and I am convinced New Mexico United is the right place for me to keep growing as a professional,” said Moar. “Since Troy and Peter shared with me this project and their desire to start working towards a championship, the wisest thing I could do was to accept this challenge. I can't wait to get to Albuquerque and give my best to help New Mexico United become a great team on and off the field."
Santi Moar, forward, originally from Ordes, Spain, most recently played with with the United Soccer League’s (USL) Bethlehem Steel FC for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, after having been selected in the fourth round (82nd overall) in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. In 2018, with the Bethlehem Steel FC, Moar had 35 appearances, 26 starts, 6 goals, where he came in 1st in team assists and 2nd in team goals. In 2016, Moar played for the Premier Development League (PDL), now known as League Two (USL2), Charlotte Eagles in 2016. Prior to playing with the Charlotte Eagles, Moar played four years of college soccer at Pfeiffer University in South Carolina, ending his last season with 20 appearances, 20 starts, 14 goals and 19 assists, making NCCSIA second team and All-Southwest Region.
“Santi has proven to be one of the most exciting attacking players in the USL over the last two seasons, and I'm so happy he's joining our club,” said Lesesne. “He's a player that I've scouted and wanted to work with since his college days at Pfeiffer. I'm not only confident he can replicate the form he was in this past year, but believe he will take an even bigger step forward in his production for 2019.”
